Evergreen Taoist Temple, Redfern

Evergreen Taoist Temple, Redfern

I couldn't believe it, a short stroll from Surry Hills Shopping Village is a deceptively large Taoist centre on Bourke Street, Redfern.

It used to be a police station, but the group bought up part of the block to build their organisation.

Amazing how they were able to make it look like a temple from outside and in - given they had to work with the original structure.

  1. This temple is not the original structure. I was a project co-ordinator on the building works for the builders AW Edwards. The temple building and all other buildngs on the temple side of the property are new buildings. They did have to be built in a style reflective of the surrounding buildings to maintain some sort of heritage conservation though. The only building which is the original is the building on the Bourke St front which was converted from it's use as a police academy into accomodation
