WAITING FOR THE BANANAS

Each day I scrutinize my banana tree to check out any changes since first noticing the first signs of fruit. A week has gone by and I have definitely noticed progress.

Everyone has advice. Dad reckons cow manure is best dug into the ground approximately one handspan away from the base. Then covered and watered. He's probably right, everything he touches on the plant way seem to grow wonderfully.

But I take the easy option. Any food scrap goes around the base including left over cabbage (some of which have been appearing inside the house courtesy of my naughty dog, mimi), banana skin (seems appropriate) and even mango seeds and skin.

I am salivating at the thought of eating my first home grown banana!

  1. Hi, We get a bunch on bananas most years, and we don't even water the poor trees, never mind feed them!
The bananas are small but absolutely delicious, totally organic. We have a bunch growing again now. It takes a long time for them to mature so you have to be patient! But you also have to pick them at the very first sign of one ripening or the birds get them first.
    Enjoy watching them grow.

  2. Hi Thang,
Good luck with the bananas! I only found out recently never to take a banana out on a fishing boat.
I was out on our little boat on middle harbour. Mike was having no luck whatsoever with the fishing and I casually asked him if he'd like a banana to eat and he literally went 'bananas' saying (some things I wont repeat) it was very bad luck to take a banana on a fishing trip, so I quickly ate the banana myself. He didn't want any!
I must say he did catch some fish after that!
Have a Wonderful New Year. Not too long to wait now for Walter.
    Love,
    Lynne.
